Two Scientists

Carter continues to excel in school.  He has stopped crying each morning and drop off is getting better and better.  I'm very proud of him!

  

Carter doesn't really like doing homework, but when he does it, he really does a great job! (Notice how he writes his name backwards.  You could hold it up to the mirror and read it.  I keep telling myself that's a sign of genius...)

  

Carter's teacher pointed out the yellow circle to me and told me that Carter has some of the nicest handwriting she had seen!  His teacher also indicated that it might be possible that Carter is Gifted & Talented.  She said while it is still too early to tell, that his work in his journal at school is very advanced.  He draws maps and tells very intricate stories.  I'm sure Riley has played a part in helping him with that advanced aspect of his personality.  Helps to have an older brother to watch and learn from!

  

On October 10, our neighborhood hosted a walking school bus.  The mayor, Betsy Price, and our councilwoman, Ann Zadeh, walked to school with us.  They started at the house of our neighborhood association President and as they walked they picked up more and more kids.  At last count there were at least 75 kids walking to school together.

The Walking School Bus initiative was to work on stopping obesity in our schools and at the start of school that day there was a presentation from students and the Mayor spoke.  It was very cool to witness!

That night Riley and Carter had a double sleepover with some brother friends who are their age.  The boys had a great time playing Harry Potter, eating pizza and popsicles and playing.  They all went to bed fairly easily and I was very proud because Chad had to work that night, so I did the sleepover duties by myself!

October 17 was Walkathon Day at the boys' school.  This is one of our two main fundraisers and it's a lot of fun.  I walked with Riley's class and Chad walked part of the way with Carter's class before he had to go to a meeting.  It's very fun to walk through the neighborhood and Riley did a great job this year.

  

We also took the boys to the Pumpkin Patch on the 18th.  We invited the Loveladys and Iorizzos to join us and we had a great time.  I waited a bit later this year to coordinate the trip to the pumpkin patch because we always go early and I can't hold the boys off too long when it comes to carving and last year our pumpkins rotted!

 On the afternoon of the 18th we also were invited by Kate and Jason to go to the TCU Football game.  We had a great time and got to watch them win!

  

On October 19th the boys went to church with Grandmommy & Haha and then went to the church pumpkin patch.  They followed that up with carving some pumpkins.

  

The boys school pictures came home last week and the only one I am pleased with is Carter's individual photo.  You'd think in the day of digital cameras, that retakes would be a thing of the past.....apparently not.  Riley will be getting his photo retaken tomorrow.

  

This past weekend the boys spent Friday night with Nana & Papa so Chad & I could go out with friends.  Riley brought all his chore money and convinced Nana to take him to Toys R Us where she helped him purchase his latest Lego obession.  They had a great time building it - both Riley and Nana!

  

On Saturday night Chad took Riley & Carter camping with Cub Scouts.  This is a bit outside of Chad's comfort zone, but Riley has been loving Cub Scouts so much that Chad couldn't help it but take him camping.  From the pictures and stories, it seems that they had a great time!  They hiked, ate smores and hamburgers/hotdogs, slept in a tent, retired flags, had a pancake breakfast and played with friends.

  

On Sunday when they arrived home from the campout we finally carved our pumpkins.  Both boys designed their pumpkins on paper and then Chad helped them transfer that onto the pumpkin and carve it.  I was the officially pumpkin guts scooper-outer (Riley did help some with that!).  It was great to do this as a family activity!

Grandmommy celebrated her birthday yesterday, but because Riley had a Cub Scout Pack Meeting and we would not be able to celebrate on the actual day, we brought over cupcakes and her present on Sunday afternoon.  Carter was a good candle blowing out helper!

 

This week is Red Ribbon Week at school and each day has a theme.  Today's theme was to dress up as your favorite career choice.  Riley wanted to be a  scientist for the 2nd year running and Carter decided to join in on the fun and be one also. (Carter didn't want his photo taken and also didn't want to bring his goggles to school.)  I love that Riley wore the bowtie!  He said he looked like the scientist from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.  Carter's friends were telling him how cool he looked when they saw him so I think he felt pretty proud that he dressed up!
