Last Thursday the boys had joint dentist appointments in the morning. It was Carter's first. They both did well, although Riley had a serious phobia about lying back in the chair. He would sit in it, he just made it really clear to both Chad & the dentist that he did NOT want to lay down. Thankfully, the dentist was accommodating and did not make him lay back. We are now starting to work with Riley about brushing his teeth at the sink with big boy toothpaste so he can start learning how to spit. He is doing really good and we are proud of him! Carter still hadn't gotten his 8th tooth by the time of his appointment, but thankfully it finally came through over the weekend. That tooth was a bugger! So he has officially caught up with where I was as a baby when it came to teeth! He IS Mr. Overachiever! Now let's see where he gets with walking in the next week!
On Thursday night Chad & I had a date night to go out with the Cliburn 180 group to the Lone Star Film Festival to see the film Monogamy. The Cliburn 180s are a group of 20-30 year olds associated with the Van Cliburn Foundation. While we didn't meet any other members, we did enjoy the movie a lot. We met up beforehand with Tracy for some dinner and drinks at 8.0 and that was fun, although we chose to sit on the patio and it got cold. We decided to grab a coffee before the movie to warm up and ran into our friend Becky working at the Starbucks! It was good to see her! The movie was interesting and it was out first time to go to the film festival. After the movie the 180s were going to Capital Bar to see a band play, but Chad & I are old! :) So we went home and were glad we did because we were so tired!
On Friday night we met up at the boy's school for a fundraiser to raise money to put new flooring in at their school. The children sang for us in the sanctuary before we all went to the Fellowship Hall to eat and play. Riley did so good on the first song "Itsy Bitsy Spider" and I was so proud. He stood front and center, did all the hand motions and sang all the words. I was thinking "Wow! What a little performer! He's perfect!" and then it all went downhill. During the 2nd, 3rd and 4th songs he played at the altar, wrestled his friends, refused to sing and eventually was scolded by the KinderMusic teacher! Oh well....Maybe he'll be ready for KWC mini camp this summer? Hopefully! Here's is a photo progression of his downward performance spiral:
The main reason for the gathering was to raise money for new flooring at TLCC. This daycare has been around for 50 years and their flooring is over half that age! It's time to replace it, but they can't do it alone! Chad & I feel VERY passionately about this and therefore, if you would like to donate any amount, let me know and I will pick up cash or a check from you, or I will tell you where you can send a check, or even, Chad will send you a Paypal invoice via email for your chosen amount. Chad even spent all day putting together a drawing for the school so they can mark how much money they have raised:

On Saturday morning we got up bright and early and headed to LMRA for the 4th Annual Softball Tournament benefiting Jake Remembered. In happy news, we also received word last week that Jake Remembered is officially a non-profit now! Exciting! Besides being COLD, the softball tournament was a big success! The fields were wet though and had to be worked over the night and morning of to get them playable. Even then, we only got two of the 3 fields playable and so we were scrambling at the last minute to rework the game times and brackets. We are so thankful to all the players for being so understanding! It was crazy, but a great day! Chad, Riley & Carter stayed out with us until dark. Riley really loved playing on the bleachers. He called them the 'white steps.' He and Carter were both so well-behaved and both napped great that day outside, so I couldn't be happier!
It was so great to see familiar faces and family and people who just loved Jake. It was a great day and in the end a new team, Midnight Express/No Chance won, beating two time returning champions, JJ Ball All Stars. This was exciting because it was the first time a co-ed team won the tournament.

On Sunday I was exhausted, but nothing would stop us from attending Kennis' 6th Birthday Party at Little Gym. It was a great time and it was really fun to see Riley play with the big kids. He did pretty good overall and it was real funny to watch! Carter had fun playing with Kennis' Aunt Dori's jewelry. Here is Riley having fun at the party:
Thankfully, after the party Chad dropped me & the boys off at home so they could nap and I could clean up the house and he did the grocery shopping by himself! So sweet!
Last night Chad & I attended my first work concert at Bass Hall. It was great and I was happy that he got to meet all of my co-workers last night. We had a good time and the boys had fun with Nana, Papa & Memaw. Can't believe Thanksgiving is already next week! The holiday season is flying by!
