Halloween 2012

Not sure if Riley drew the outline, or just colored it in....  Either way this is a very good looking pumpkin.  It will get us in the mood for our 2012 Halloween post.

On Halloween, Lily B does a Storybook Parade.  Since Riley's skeleton Halloween costume was a bit scary, we had to come up with a costume for the Storybook parade.  Early on, Riley chose a book called Dinosaur Days and luckily, we had a t-rex hat he could wear.  I quickly emailed Memaw to see if she could craft up some t-tex gloves for Riley to wear.  Riley's only request was that the gloves have two claws because t-rex's only have two claws.  Luckily, we have a pretty great Memaw and she sent up some amazing looking gloves.

 

However, the night before Halloween, Riley informed us that he also needed a t-rex tail.  Crafty Dad (Chad) came through this time (again!) and made Riley a tail out of green paper.  First Riley drew up plans for the tail:

It turned out looking pretty great!

Papa and I took Riley to school so we could both watch the Storybook Parade.  Riley did a great job!

While we were at the Storybook Parade, Chad took Carter to TLCC for their Halloween parade.

Carter and Zachary were both pirates this year.

They trick or treated to neighboring businesses and from the look on his face, Carter had a great time.  Instead of saying trick or treat, he walked up to everyone and said "I'm a pirate."

 

At the end of the day, we all met up at Grandmommy & Haha's for our traditional trick or treating in Mistletoe Heights.

We made the kids walk this year, which was a genius decision because they were exhausted pretty quickly and by 8pm or so we were back at Grandmommy's for baths before heading home to bed.

 

It has been an emotionally exhausting week.  Grammy was recently moved from Dallas to a rehab hospital in Fort Worth.  At first she seemed to be doing great, but developed aspiration pneumonia and was not doing as good.  On Monday afternoon, we got word that Grammy was ready to stop fighting and wanted to go home.  She is now at home on 24-hour hospice care and is refusing nourishment at this time.  It is only a matter of days before her body succumbs to the fight and her soul goes to Heaven.  We have been visiting her as much as we can and last night Riley wanted to visit.  He had made a picture with Kate for me that showed me, Grammy and Nana.  He said Aunt Kate should write our real names: "Carolyn, Sarah and Grammy."  On the back he dictated a letter to me.  Sweet boy is so sensitive and knows just what I need to lift my spirits.  Please pray that my Grammy passes peacefully and that my family is able to find comfort in her absence.  She has been such a huge presence in my life and I am definitely going to miss her.
