Halloween is in full mode at our house. Here's a photo of our front porch milk jugs in the dark. Spooky!
Riley was off of school October 14th so I kept Carter home as well and I took the day off. It was raining out so this was how the boys spent the morning: laid out on couches in their PJs with the dogs sprawled out next to them.
Riley did get up and help me make pumpkin chocolate chip cookies (Carter helped a little too! Especially when it came to eating the mini chocolate chips!) I'm not sure if it's the fact that I'm cooking on electric again, instead of gas (I grew up on electric, but we had gas in the old house) but these cookies were the best batch I've ever made.
I also got to Skype with Katharina and her 5 week old son Hannes on Monday. He is so cute!
The boys were itching to go outside and by the afternoon it wasn't really raining, so we donned rainboots (I've got to get Carter some new ones, he outgrew his ad had to wear old cowboy boots of Riley's) and grabbed umbrellas and walked to Lily B to play on the playground.
Carter saw a train go by and watched it from the fence. It was at the back corner of the playground so he had a longer walk home and I guess that walk home wore him out cause this was him post playground.
Carter has been so sweet lately, although we are having an issue with him listening. We tell him something and it's like he's deaf and mute - 0% response. It's like we were weren't even talking! If he's like this at almost 4 years old, what kind of teenager is he going to be?? He's also taken to calling the color silver "silvedge" which cracks me up and no matter how many times I remind him that it's "silver" he doesn't remember!
Last Wednesday the boys had a sleepover at Grandmommy & Haha's and it looks like Riley held a storytime in their bed!
Riley also got his Report Card on Wednesday and we were very proud. All A's & B's! 88% in Comp & Language; 90% in Math; 88% in Reading; 94% in Science; and 96% in Social Studies. Very proud of him!
Friday was the Lily B Walkathon and I went and walked with Riley. This year we got to walk the full Walkathon as last year they have PK & KG only walk part of it. Riley of course complained that he was tired of walking, but he walked the whole way. I had a great time visiting with other moms and dads while we walked.
Friday night was Family Spirit Night at Lily B and so we went back up to the school for playtime and dinner together (All free!) There were confetti eggs and the boys had fun running the school track and playing. When we got home we sat on the porch and Riley put on a shadow puppet show for us.
My uncle Jimmy was in town and came with Papa to the Walkathon on Friday. They also came back that evening and Jimmy brought a new quilt for Riley from Memaw. Since Riley is in the full sized bed now, his adorable twin dragon quilt Memaw made him would not fit on his new bed, so she made him a bigger one and he LOVES it!
On Saturday we went to the old house to get the last of the playset and then Chad spent most of the day trying to craft antennas since we decided to cut cable at the new house. He used his brother Blake's father in law's design and made these beauties:
They look archaic, but they work!
Saturday night was a sleepover at our house with Liz and Zachary. We walked about 8 blocks to Newby Park in our neighborhood for our Neighborhood Association's "Family Movie Night". The movie was Hotel Transylvania and it was so fun! Besides being cold and Chad having to walk Liz and Zachary to Tochy's Tacos to go potty mid-movie, we had a great time.
They stayed up late for the movie, but Riley fell asleep on our blanket all bundled up. Had to wake him up for the walk home.
But he was all smiles the next morning as we sat on the front porch visiting. We laughed and laughed as we saw a squirrel fall out of a tree into a bush and we just chatted and played "I Spy"
Sunday afternoon we went to the Pumpkin Patch with the Loveladys and had a great time. Riley told me he wanted to get 11 pumpkins, but in the end we settled for 3 big ones and 3 small ones.
Chad and Riley carved up 1 pumpkin as soon as we got home and Chad insisted on only taking inspiration from the stencils we had, but creating their own design. Riley balked at first, but told Chad he really enjoyed it in the end.
Their design was a hand coming up out of the ground in front of a tombstone. The hand is Riley's hand (missing a pinky finger to make it look scarier!)

They also finally put our spider out and got the spider webs up. I was having trouble figuring out how to do the webs, but Chad to the rescue! Another mom told me the house looked good when she walked by this morning!
